The Tateoka Farm

Charlotte had told me and Jill that we were going to stay at her Grandma's house a few miles outside of Burley, ID and visit her Aunt and Uncle who live down the road.  Not having ever been to Burley, I envisioned something of a suburban setting, perhaps on the outskirts of town.

You probably already knew this, but Burley, Idaho does not have suburbs.

Charlotte, I learned on this trip, comes from a long line of farmers.   Her family (Grandma, Aunt & Uncle and cousins) are absolutely delightful people.  They were extremely welcoming and friendly and we had a great time visiting with them.  They even made ham for me when everybody else had chicken for lunch.  I was honestly sad to say goodbye.

This is the original homesteader's house (it's since been remodeled).

The barrels on the right are for gasoline.  I'm not sure what's in the round shed/stubby silo type things are, but they looked cool.  At one point, Uncle Ted came out and asked me what on earth I was taking pictures of.  "This is just dirt.  You should come back when I have something growing and this is all green."  He insisted we jump on the 4-wheelers* and go down to the river.

Also not bad.

*side note - Somehow in my life, I had never ridden 4-wheelers for any significant amount of time, which made me kind of nervous at first.  I'm pretty sure everyone was laughing at me behind my back, but whatever, I deserved it.  I had fun.

Yea for Burley, Idaho! My grandpa claims that relatives of ours founded it. They must not be direct line relatives because I can't find anyone who ever lived in Idaho :-). Does Jason Jones still live there? Did you try to look up his family?
